Restless Leg Syndrome
Have you ever been super tired and when you lay down to go to sleep your legs start twitching, writhing, moving sometimes seemingly uncontrollably? That's called Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS).
This was happening to me! It doesn't happen often...but often enough to be frustrating and disrupt my ability to get a good nights sleep!
Well there is hope.
You see, the muscles require a balance of adequate amounts of magnesium/calcium. There is some evidence suggesting that as much as 80% of adults are deficient in magnesium.
Why am I deficient in Magnesium?
Inadequate intake of minerals in the diet, soda and caffeine consumption can lead to deficiency in magnesium. Muscles and nerves require adequate levels in order to function properly.
Interestingly, a recent study found that men with restless legs syndrome have a whopping 40 percent higher risk of total mortality. This finding was independent of other known risk factors, including a variety of chronic diseases.
“The relationship between restless legs syndrome and all-cause mortality was stronger for men who had symptoms 15 or more times per month compared with those who had symptoms five to 14 times per month.” (MedPage Today)
According to the researchers, one (of several) potential mechanisms that might account for this increased mortality risk is disturbed sleep.

Previous research found that people with chronic insomnia have a three times greater risk of dying from any cause.
As a Medical Doctor I am constantly searching for better solutions for my patients, and in this case, MYSELF! My RLS was getting so bad I was struggling to fall asleep no matter HOW TIRED I was!
One day a patient of mine suggested I try a liquid mineral drink. I didn't have any reason to believe it would help, but based on the ingredients, I could tell it wouldn't hurt me, so I tried it.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it worked...surprisingly fast!

HOW FAST did it work?
Not the first night, but by the 2nd night, I fell asleep quickly and slept soundly ALL NIGHT!
Now when I go to bed if I feel the twitching start, I jump up and head to the refrigerator and take a big swig of the mineral drink.
Within 10 min I am fast asleep and I wake up the next morning feeling more rested and ready for the day. That may sound like a "TV ad" but it's true!
There are a number of factors that you should consider if you think you have RLS.
I put together an article that will help you determine what might be your cause and will offer you a few options to consider, including the mineral drink that worked for me.
I'm a doctor, and I recommend spending a little time researching the solution for RLS.
Trust me, you'll sleep SO MUCH BETTER!
